‘Primary emotional love language’

Seldom do a husband and wife have the same primary emotional love language. We tend to speak our primary love language, and we become confused when our spouse does not understand what we are communicating. We are expressing our love, but the message does not come through because we are speaking what, to them, is a foreign language. Therein lies the fundamental problem, and it is the purpose of this book to offer a solution.

— The 5 Love Languages (Gary Chapman), Loc. 128–31

I feel like that’s how it works, because I have two girls that I both truly love and care about. But I understand one very well, because we speak one love language, communication. And it’s so hard to understand another one, simply because we speak different love languages. Say, I don’t care about presents, flowers… like, at all. (I rather hate them.)

I tried to fake this before, but I realised I’m no longer willing. You get me as-is, and if the will to get presents from me overweight your will to have me as a person who can talk and understand you, I’d rather let you go than keep you around and have us both unhappy and constantly irritated at each other.
